🕺 The Path To Freedom & Your Inner World

Oct 06, 2023

Read time: 5 mins

In this week’s dose, I share one idea I’ve been obsessing about, fearing the unknown, what determines your potential, and the power of choice.

🗣 Quotes of the Week:

"Your potential is not defined by your past; it's determined by your present choices."

Each day I’m learning that the deeper I go within, the bigger my potential gets.

The more I explore the parts of me that hold me back and rewire my limiting beliefs, the more I realize that it never has anything to do with what happened to me, but everything to do with how I respond to what happened to me.

How I internalize it, what I make it mean about myself, and if allow it to hold me back or use it to propel me forward…

There’s so much freedom in this.

So much possibility when we realize our limitations are coming from and created within.

Which means WE have the power to eliminate them and experience life for what it is.

Pure fucking love & possibility.

"The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Every belief, action, and experience is a choice.

And your perspective is your greatest weapon.

Read that again.

It shapes every single experience in your life.

When we embrace that the quality of our WHOLE LIFE is distilled down to our perception of it… we find the path forward to live our best life.

Our perspective is then capable of being shaped by intentional choice as opposed to being on auto-pilot (like 99% of the world are living).

"The biggest risk is not taking any risk. In a world that's changing quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks." - Mark Zuckerberg

Many of the men I speak to are hung up on starting a business, quitting/changing jobs, moving cities, taking a pay cut, following a passion, and the list goes on…

There is an ever-present fear of the unknown.

Too much perceived risk involved.

The options…

Take a chance to follow what a part of me is calling me to do and listen to my intuition.

Or remain in the present discomfort that I KNOW.

Even though it’s INCREDIBLY uncomfortable, it’s familiar.

I’ve learned that our minds would rather be comfortable, correct, and be a victim than be happy.

This is the obstacle.

Realizing that you’re being driven by a PART of you that hates change, tries to predict the future, dislikes discomfort, and loves making you freak out about all of it.

Kinda silly when you think about it.

This part of us is great at evaluating the risk of taking action.

But it’s horrible at evaluating the risk of INACTION.

Of remaining in the same place, feeling how we’re feeling now - only compounded.

The key to finally feel like you’re LIVING is to listen to your gut, follow your intuition, and take ACTION to do the things you’ve always wanted to do.

Otherwise, you’ll kick yourself for it the rest of your life.

🤯 Mindset Mastery: The Past Isn't Real

I’ve been obsessing with one idea lately.

The past doesn’t exist.

It lives only as memory, which itself is constantly being re-shaped & changed.

Let me explain…

As we evolve, our mind changes.

Our perspective shifts and we start to view life through a new lens.

So as we reflect on past events, or memories, we view them as a totally different person.

This is apparent when you do the inner work.

For me, I’ve had a tough time moving on from stories of my past.

From feeling like an outcast in high school, to lost romantic relationships, to career shifts, and everything in between.

But as I work to regain control of my narrative and my mind, I notice how I view these stories differently.

There’s less judgment, shame, and meaning behind them.

I see them for what they are - objective events - and I see my mind for what IT is - a subjective survival mechanism.

What I’ve taken from this is that memories aren’t real at all.

What’s true is ALWAYS true.

And if something can shift so drastically based on something as simple as a perspective, then why do I keep putting so much weight into them.

This has catalyzed a cascade of new breakthroughs and challenges alike.

I feel more freedom than I ever have before, but I feel an immense amount of responsibility.

Freedom because I truly feel like everything in my life starts and stops with me.

Responsibility because it requires me to take full fucking ownership of every single moment of my day.

And because I feel called to help others step into this free state of being.

We’re highly malleable beings.

Capable of great things and full of tremendous potential.

Every single one of us.

But it takes a commitment to build self-awareness, empathy, open-mindedness, adaptability, grit, and a WILLINGNESS to change.
