👓 Craving Change, Yet Feeling Stuck?

In this week’s dose, I share my 3-step framework you can use to create change in every area of your life.

The biggest gift you can give yourself is to realize you can change your life by simply changing how you VIEW life.
Change starts with shifting how you relate to your problems.
🧘♂️ Creating Lasting Change
As I write this, it's Friday and I'm at my favorite coffee shop in Solana Beach.
I come here to work on anything important except taking client calls.
Next week, I move to Austin. Including ATX, I will have lived in 9 cities in 10 years, each representing a different chapter in my life.
As this chapter comes to an end, I'm reflecting on the time I spent in this cozy coffee shop writing content, courses, and newsletters.
Learning how to believe in myself and overcome imposter syndrome.
Even as this community & business grows, a part of me still doubts myself.
It tells me I'm a sales guy who happened to get through depression.
What business do I have coaching?
I’ve had to work HARD to overcome this negative talk track and build a new one.
But when it comes to changing a former identity, this is normal.
Even if a former identity isn’t serving us, our survival mind prefers the familiar over anything else.
Meaning we can simultaneously be conscious of the fact we want to make more money, build a successful company, live stress-free, be in a loving relationship, and live healthy…
But we still repeat patterns of self-sabotage that bring us back to and keep us in a familiar state.
Why is it so freaking hard to change?
Even if we WANT this new & improved version of ourselves.
When we bring forth change into our lives or introduce a new way of BEING, the mind gets scared.
It’s wired to predict and protect.
So creating a NEW identity is one of the hardest things we'll ever do because our survival mind feels this change threatens predictability & comfort.
If you find yourself repeating old patterns or slipping back into a more "comfortable" mode even though you don't want to... this is why.
It’s not because you lack motivation or that you’re not capable.
It’s because this sabotage is happening at a subconscious level.
So you have to start being intentional with the BELIEFS that are driving your behavior.
And remember, our behaviors are a symptom of our beliefs.
→ Beliefs are upstream
→ Behaviors are downstream
Here's a way to create lasting change.
My 3-step framework for creating change:
Step 1: Awareness
Before any change can take place, you must become aware of the problem.
You can gain this insight from others, through self-reflection, or by viewing your triggers & judgments as opportunities to grow (a more advanced technique).
And become aware of the true obstacle getting in your way - in this case, your subconscious beliefs.It's important to approach this with curiosity & an open mind for deeper transformation.
Step 2: Intention
Once you are aware of the problem, you have to set a clear intention.
Set a clear North Star to become the type of person who overcomes the problem (THIS is they key).
Think of intentions like ways of being versus things you need to do.
Here’s what I mean...
Instead of saying I’m going to work out 4 days/wk starting Jan 1, you ask yourself:
→ What type of person works out 4days/wk?
→ What do they believe about themselves?
→ What do they believe about live?
→ How do they behave?
→ How do they THINK?
And then how do I need to start LIVING to become that person?
Step 3: Action
Now, you HAVE to take action.
Tony Robbins loves to talk about taking massive action, but I love tiny action.
Something so small that you can do it every day, even when you don’t feel like it.
Especially in the early days when you are trying to get back on track despite self-doubt and self-criticism.
And the purpose of action isn’t to change in one week, it’s to start becoming the type of person who can handle ANY problem thrown his way.
The type of person who knows change happens through a collection of tiny moments OVER TIME.
I’ve never understood why guys will think “If I can’t get the results I want RIGHT NOW, then I won’t even start.”
What in the f*ck? Why?
Makes no sense to stay where you’re at because you can’t get the change you want in 2 weeks… so you abandon it all together?!
That’s not a rational, sane way of thinking.
First, you have to become the person who GETS results.
And here’s the secret, it won’t take MONTHS to get there.
Become aware, set your intention, and take small action.
Simple.
